New Principal to Lead Prevail Academy

Press Release

MT. CLEMENS, Mich., August 8, 2014—Colleen Furman will serve as the new principal of Prevail Academy for the 2014-2015 school year.
Furman will replace Nicole Young, who served as principal of Prevail for four years. In April, Young announced she had accepted a principal position at Reach Charter Academy in Roseville, Mich.
Furman has served at the school for eight years as a middle school teacher, middle school dean, and most recently the dean of intervention.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oakland University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Saginaw Valley State University.
“I am very excited to have the privilege to lead the school I have called home for the past eight years,” Furman said. “We have a great team of educators who are passionate about our mission to ensure each one of our scholars is on the college bound path.”
At Prevail Academy the average student grew more than 133 percent of the national average and had overall scores above the national average for each of the last five years.
Furman’s new position began on June 30. There will be several opportunities throughout the summer for families to talk with Furman about the year ahead including the school’s back to school bash on August 22.
Prevail Academy is a free public charter school serving students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
