Colleen Furman, Principal

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oakland University
  • Master’s degree in educational leadership from Saginaw Valley State University
 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field

I have been a part of the Prevail team for seven years serving as a middle school teacher, middle school dean, and the dean of intervention.
 

Why did you choose education as a profession?

I chose education as a profession because I believe all children deserve a high quality education and to be truly loved and cared about.
 

Personal

I love to watch gymnastics. My favorite classic book is “The Great Gatsby”.
 
 
 

Theresa Lindecker, Dean of Intervention

What do you like most about working here?

I love the people I work with. I have developed a few strong friendships that extend outside of the school.
 

Personal

I have been married for almost 30 years. I have two children, a son and a daughter. I enjoy golfing and bowling and reading.
 
 
 

Mark Weigle, Dean of Upper Elementary

Previous experience

Seven years as a teacher (3 years in 4th grade, ½ year of Physical Education, and 3 and ½ years of 5th Grade)
 

What do you like most about working here?

I love working with the kids and seeing their effort put into action. Each day I have an opportunity to work with passionate educators who want to work towards a goal for our students. I truly enjoy the challenge of working with a team towards a common goal.
 

Other work experience

Leading and administrating over 15 years of summer sports camps.
 

Personal

I enjoy attending Detroit Tigers games, walking our Dalmatian Riley, and watching college basketball.
 
 
 

Nicole Laney, Dean of Middle School

  • 3 years teaching 7th grade ELA at Hunter’s Creek Middle School in Orlando, FL
  • 3 years teaching 6th / 7th grade ELA at Reach Charter Academy (NHA) in Roseville, MI
  • 2 years as Middle School Dean at Taylor Exemplar Academy (NHA) in Taylor, MI
  • 1st year as K-4 Dean at Prevail Academy (NHA) in Mt. Clemens, MI
 

What do you like most about working here?

I enjoy the fact that I get to do what I love every single day - support our staff members as we all work toward the common goal of challenging each child to achieve and reach college readiness.  Our staff, students, families and community members make every day worthwhile and fun!
 

Personal

I live in St. Clair Shores, MI with my husband and our cat, Schatzie.  We are expecting our first son in October of 2014 and are so incredibly excited to become Mommy and Daddy!
 
 

Stacy Jovanovski, Lower Elementary Dean

Education

  • Bachelors in elementary education at Oakland University with majors in ela and math
  • Masters in teacher leadership also through Oakland University
  • Masters is in educational leadership through Marygrove College

 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field: 

I have taught kindergarten and 3rd grade as well as held a position as a math specialist and academic specialist during my 11 years with NHA.  I was a part of opening the following schools:  Taylor Exemplar Academy, Reach Academy, and Regent Park Scholars Academy, prior to working at Prevail Academy.
 

Why did you choose education as a career? 

I chose education as a career because I had an amazingly positive experience as a student and wanted to ensure that all scholars had similar experiences.  Becoming a dean has allowed me to impact many students by supporting and coaching teachers.   
 

Personal

My husband, Dragan and I, have 2 children.  Dominick, is currently a kindergarten student at Prevail Academy and is 5 years old.  Alexzander is 3 years old.  My family and I enjoy spending time together doing these outdoors.  We love to do RC cars, swim, camp, play games of all kinds, and throw fun parties!
