Cooling Down and Spreading Smiles: Prevail Academy Delivers Kona Ice

Making their way through town, delivering cold treats to students and families. Members of Prevail Academy’s leadership and admissions teams hosted a Kona Ice delivery event at the end of July to connect with current families and to spread the word about the school throughout the community.

“We missed our families so very much and were looking for any way possible to see them,” said Stacey Jovanovski, dean of lower elementary at Prevail Academy. “We knew of a couple of families without transportation in neighboring apartment complexes so we wanted to head straight to them to increase the chances we would see them!”

Throughout the day, school leaders and the admissions team handed out the frozen treats and were later joined by 10 teachers to show their support and visit with students and families.

The group traveled around the Mount Clemens area, making stops with the Kona Ice Truck in different parts of the community. The first stop was at 35 South Apartments, then they took off and headed to Newport Apartments, after spending about an hour there, the group headed to Lawndale Park, before heading to their final destination of Prevail Academy where all the teachers joined in the fun.

In addition to visiting with families who are currently enrolled at the school, one goal of the event was to get out in the community to make new connections and find more scholars to join the Prevail school community.

“Our goal was to just do something nice for the Mt. Clemens Community!” said Jovanovski. “Many community members and patrons thanked us for bringing the Kona Ice truck to their local park and complexes.”

Students and their families lined up, face masks included, to get their hands on the tasty treats. In addition to tasting cool and delicious, Kona Ice packs in nutritional goodness. Each treat includes Vitamin C and D, with fruit being the primary ingredient. Throughout the day, the group passed out more than 150 shaved ice treats!

“We had a complete blast creating smiles and giving socially distanced hugs,” shared Jovanovski. “We loved making sure our scholars knew that we were still around, even though we hadn’t been able to physically see them in a while!”
