Milwaukee Scholars Enjoy Performance by the Milwaukee Flyers

Milwaukee Scholars recently enjoyed a free performance by the Milwaukee Flyers, a non-profit tumbling team that aims to provide a positive outlet for youth through recreational activities and entertainment. Nearly 50 individuals including students, families, and community members enjoyed the performance while munching on tasty snacks.

The Flyers kept the attendees in awe of their talent while they jumped roped, flipped, spun, and soared through the air. The event concluded with a free-throw competition that allowed six scholars from kindergarten- through seventh-grade to participate.

The Milwaukee Flyers Tumbling Team was formed in 2005 by a group of Milwaukee men who worked with kids to strengthen life skills such as self-discipline, personal responsibility, and integrity.

“The Milwaukee Flyers event allowed families to come together to enjoy some free family fun and start their weekend off together in an exciting way,” said Patty Ruiter, admissions representative at Milwaukee Scholars. “At the end of the performance, the Flyers shared the importance of responsibility, discipline, and integrity.”

One seventh-grade student won the free throw competition, though everyone who participated gave it their best shot. The first-place winner went home with a new full-size basketball, two jump ropes, slime, and a frisbee. The second-place winner received a youth-size basketball, a jump rope, and a frisbee.

The school also selected one random winner for a “family fun basket” that included a basketball, card games, a water balloon pack, a deck of cards, jump ropes, frisbees, and two lawn chairs.

“Each performer shared their story about how long they have been dedicated to the Flyers and why they do what they do,” said Ruiter. “The event was full of entertainment, but also demonstrated to the audience that determination and hard work pays off!”
