Christy Morrin, Principal

Previous experience

More than 30 years of educational experience. Served as founding principal of Queen's Grant Community School, an NHA sister school in North Carolina. Prior to her time in North Carolina, Mrs. Morrin served as principal of Chandler Woods Charter Academy, an NHA sister school in Belmont, Mich.



Mrs. Morrin enjoys spending time with family, including her two daughters and her granddaughter, who is the light of her life. She is an avid reader who also enjoys musical theatre and singing in her church choir.

Kindergarten (1 yr), fourth grade (2 yrs), and fifth grade (3 yrs)

What do you like most about working here?

I am so excited to be part of a team that will create the Matthews Charter Academy community of teachers, parents, and students working together!


I am originally from Colchester, Connecticut.  I have two sisters who live in New York and Minnesota.  I enjoy reading and my favorite books are the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams and Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.

•    I taught for 11 years before going into leadership

What do you like most about working here?

  • I love the years of experience of each teacher
  • I love the diversity of scholars
  • I love how engaged parents are with their teachers and desire to volunteer to support the classrooms
  • I love that it is a brand new school we have the opportunity to create a new climate and culture that is positive and conducive to supporting the academic success and teacher growth from scratch.  


I have married for 11 years and have two children one boy and one girl.  I am originally from the beautiful island of Jamaica.  I love to sing, dance, exercise, read, write in my journal, pray and travel.


Brittany Houston, Dean of Lower Elementary


  • UNC-Greensboro:  Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, K-6

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

I previously worked for Rowan-Salisbury School Systems for 7 years. I taught 1st grade for 1 year, Kindergarten for 5 years, and 2nd grade for 1 year before transitioning to NHA.

What do you like best about working here? 

I am most excited about being able to be a part of a new school team that will build the foundation of Matthews Charter Academy.
