Orange was the color of choice on Tuesday, June 2, as Knapp Charter Academy students attended a royal celebration at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park with the king and queen of the Netherlands.
Before becoming king, one of Willem-Alexander titles was the Prince of Orange so the students wore matching orange T-shirts in his honor. The Knapp students enjoyed seeing the royal couple in person. They all watched a performance from a local Dutch dance company. This was the first official visit for the king and queen to west Michigan which has a rich Dutch heritage. Before leaving the gardens, the royal couple planted a sugar maple tree.
