Great Oaks Celebrates
Great Oaks Academy celebrated
29 students who tested proficient in all areas on the Michigan Student Test of
Education Progress (M-STEP) during a dinner on Oct. 20 at the Ukrainian
Cultural Center in Warren, Mich. Additionally, eight of those students
were specially honored for achieving “advanced” status in all areas on the

our goal is to not just educate each child, but to prepare them for college and
beyond,” said Damon Williams, principal at Great Oaks. “We want to honor these
students who are laying the groundwork for future academic success and college
were honored with a trophy, a gift bag, and a t-shirt. Great Oaks students
also performed during the event and guest speaker John Cogley, director of
school quality for National Heritage Academies, addressed the students.
“It’s a great
reward for those students who did well on the M-STEP,” said Williams. “We also
want to be able to motivate them to continue doing their best.”
Williams plans on making the celebration dinner an annual tradition. Williams
hopes that each student at Great Oaks will try to achieve proficiency in order
to be able to attend the event next year.
