Division 1 Athletes Visit Gate City

Representatives of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee visited Gate City Charter Academy, where they read to students and answered questions about what it is like to be a D-1 athlete.

The athletes shared how important it is to work hard to achieve their academics goals, as well as their athletic goals. They represented a variety of sports, including: softball, basketball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s track, lacrosse, rowing, gymnastics, and golf.

“These student-athletes are very active in their local communities and wanted to visit the students at GCCA to talk about the lifestyle of a Division I college athlete,” said Elena Brown, academic specialist at Gate City, who organized the visit.

The athletes were from a variety of schools, including: Boston College, Clemson University, Duke University, Florida State University, Georgia Tech, Miami University, North Carolina State University, Notre Dame University, Syracuse University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“This was a major experience for our students,” said Natasha Robertson, principal of Gate City.
