What do you like most about working here?

I love working in a positive climate where there is a common goal towards respecting students and encouraging them to put forth their best effort to be the best students they can be, both academically and in their character.

Other work experience

I have coached baseball and basketball and was a camp counselor. I always have loved working with children!

Personal information

I have a wonderful wife and four children that are all an absolute blessing in my life. I love to spend time with my family, and also love to play and watch all types of varied sports. My favorite sports team to cheer for is the Detroit Lions.

Education

  • Grand Valley State University: Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education
  • Western Michigan University: Master's Degree in Educational Leadership

Previous experience

I taught Alternative Ed in Coopersville Public Schools my first year out of college. Then, I was hired at Excel to teach 6th grade, which I taught for two years. I moved to 4th grade and LOVED it. I taught that for four years, until I started a family.

What do you like most about working here?

I love working with students and seeing them grow. The reason I went into education was because I believe in the potential for greatness in each child. It is a privilege to walk alongside students and help them see what they are capable of if they work hard. We also have an amazing staff! They are dedicated to excellence, and they push me to be my best.

Personal information

I love to read, and have been known to read for seven hours straight on vacations, stopping only for lunch. I am blessed with a great family. My two daughters attend Excel, and I couldn’t be happier with their experience! We love to travel together and enjoy being outside.

What do you like most about working here?

Well, for now, I’ve narrowed it down to three things.  Challenge:  I enjoy taking on the worthwhile challenges of teaching and working with middle-schoolers!  Purpose:  working at Excel gives me a sense of purpose- helping all middle-schoolers to achieve!  People:  from the staff, to the parents and of course, the students, it’s a great day to be an EAGLE!

Personal Information

Though a Cheesehead at heart, I enjoy living in Grand Rapids with my wife, Lisa, and our three school-aged children!  “Team Winter” has fun playing games, reading, biking, road trippin’ and laughing.  One day, I hope to really learn how to play the guitar.

Previous Experience

I started my teaching career in California where I taught third grade.  I taught 1st grade here at Excel for 14 years.

What do you like best about working here?

I love the sense of teamwork I experience here at Excel. When administrators, teachers, staff, and parents work together to give each child a quality education it makes a huge impact on their lives.

Personal

I enjoy spending time with my 4 grown children when they aren't traveling to some far-off place.  I also enjoy running, spending time with friends, and sunshine accompanied with warm weather.
