Middle School Get "Locked In"

Emerson Academy of Dayton hosted two weekend events called "Lock-Ins" where middle school students didn't leave the school property for several hours.

In two separate events - one for boys and one for girls - the middle school teachers and deans spent a weekend night with their students playing games, having fun and building relationships.

"It was an awesome way to get to know the kiddos outside of the classroom while having a little fun ourselves," said Christina Band, registrar at Emerson.

The first-of-its-kind event at the school was designed to be a back-to-school bonding event, she said.

More than 100 students attended and enjoyed a game truck, Zorb Balls Race Track, an obstacle course, giant twister, basketball, volleyball, capture the flag and karaoke.

They created tie-dye t-shirts and had a pizza party during the event.

The students had a great time!
