Detroit Enterprise Glee Club Wins Again!

The award-winning Detroit Enterprise Academy Glee Club received their eighth consecutive Superior Rating at the Trills & Thrills Music/Cedar Point Festival in Sandusky, Ohio. With the recognition, the group received a plaque and superior ribbon.

The DEA Glee Club consists of 20 seventh- and eighth-grade students and is under the direction of senior music content leader at DEA, Mrs. Kristin Brown. The Trills & Thrills Music Festival involves schools across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana who perform for judges. Trills & Thrills Music Festivals are non-competitive, motivational, one-day music festivals for students.

The DEA Glee Club has been around for the past 10 years, and Brown has been with them since the start.

“After seeing all of their hard work pay off, I experienced tears of joy!” said Brown. “I was so happy seeing their faces light up when they heard the judges’ feedback, and that they received the superior rating. A few of my boys ran up to me after and hugged and said, ‘thank you, Mrs. Brown!’ that made me feel great as a teacher.”

The group was judged based on tone, balance/blend, diction, interpretation, rhythm, general effect, music, and choreography.

“I'm proud that the students had the opportunity to experience singing in an ensemble, working together as a team, and of their musical growth by demonstrating everything I taught them,” said Brown. “This was a first-time experience for many of them being a part of the Trills & Thrills Music Festival and going to Cedar Point. They represented National Heritage Academies & DEA with 100% excellence.”

Without music, life would B-flat! Great work, Glee Club.
