The Chandler Woods girls basketball team held a "Gold Out" fundraiser for a fellow student suffering from Cancer. They raised $2,000 for the seven-year-old's family.
First-grader, Kohen Karns, has been in the hospital for the past six months but has been able to talk with students via Skype and through visits by teachers. The basketball team wanted to help the Karns family with health expenses. Since September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month they decided to hold a "Gold Out" where everyone was encouraged to wear gold (or yellow) in support of Kohen, and bring awareness to childhood cancer at the same time.
The team raised $2,000 from the proceeds of concessions during the game.
Their efforts gained attention from Fox 17 news where two basketball team members were interviewed the morning of the event.
