Canton Charter Takes First Place in Olympiad

While 14 other school participants received medals, Canton Charter Academy received a large trophy – for taking first place in the Millington Invitational Science Olympiad on Jan. 13.

“I am very proud of our students who take learning seriously,” said Lalita Mishra, a parent and coach of the team for the past nine years. “And for our parents who nurture the students with teaching and resources and our school for giving us the platform to practice.”

The two Canton Charter Academy teams of 15 middle school students competed in 23 science subjects including anatomy, physiology, disease detective, meteorology, building a roller coaster, building a battery buggy and more.

“Each student on the team studies four topics,” said Mishra.

In December, the Canton team competed against 32 other schools and placed third at the Liberty Middle School competition. The team plans to compete in a regional competition March 24 and a state competition at Michigan State University on April 28.

“Competing against other teams encourages the students to learn more and be successful,” said Mishra.
Great job, Canton Charter Academy!
