Apex Academy Receives “School of Excellence” Recognition

The Ohio Coalition for Quality Education recently recognized Apex Academy with a School of Excellence Award.

“We are super excited about the award as we focus on growth at Apex,” said Jen Littlefield, principal at Apex. “The staff has a growth mindset and will do whatever it takes to ensure our scholars are making progress.”

The Ohio Coalition is an organization that advocates for charter schools within Ohio to ensure that students throughout the state have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education.

The following is an excerpt from The Ohio Coalition’s recent newsletter, which featured the announcement:

“Apex Principal, Jen Littlefield, and her educational team have done an outstanding job of driving student growth. Data shows that they doubled reading and tripled math gains in one year”, said Ron Adler, OCQE President.

Littlefield shared that her team has been focusing on small group progress monitoring every day in their classrooms versus focusing on large-group instruction.

“Our focus has been on ‘every child learning at their ability and needs’,” said Littlefield. “We determined our highest-need students and worked endlessly to provide them an individualized instructional plan.”

Littlefield shared that when they began implementing this new process, it was hard work and took many hours to develop the plans, implement the instruction, and to work towards understanding the data.

“Through the process, we have seen our teachers grow as educators,” she said. “We are so proud of our teachers and scholars for this achievement and look forward to more progress and growth in the years to come!”
