Second-Grade Teacher Wins Award

On March 27, Lindsay Andrade, a second-grade teacher at Achieve Charter Academy, was named as one of the five finalists for the 2017 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA).

“Lindsay is the kind of teacher that every parent hopes their child has!” said Jennifer Conley, principal of Achieve Academy. “She brings creativity, an open mind, and a true heart for making a difference in her classroom. She is that educator that is always going the extra mile and holds herself to a high standard. Lindsay is very much deserving of this award.”

With close to 1,000 teachers nominated for the annual award this year, the competition was tough.

“These five extraordinary teachers are among the very best educators you’ll find anywhere in the country,” said MAPSA President Dan Quisenberry in a press release. “They bring innovation, dedication and creativity to their classrooms every day, and the result is outstanding student achievement. We’re thrilled to be honoring them as the finalists for the 2017 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year award.”

NHA was also well represented in the top 25 finalists with the following teachers making the list: Laura Ebnit,  English teacher, Detroit Enterprise Academy; Megan Mitchell, math teacher, South Canton Scholars Charter Academy; Amber Nevison, second-grade teacher; Melissa Flickinger, third-grade teacher, Chandler Woods Charter Academy.

The award winner will be announced in May during National Charter Schools Week.
