Windemere Park Celebrates 20 Years by Hosting Music on the Lawn

To celebrate bringing 20 years of education to the Lansing community, Windemere Park Charter Academy (WPCA) recently hosted Music on the Lawn, a free community event featuring live jazz music. Since opening its doors in 1999, nearly 1,000 students have graduated from Windemere Park, creating a lasting, positive impact on the surrounding community.

Throughout the evening, community members enjoyed free food, participated in raffles, and relaxed during the fun, family-friendly function. Root Doctor, an award-winning Michigan based blues and soul band, and Horn & Holland, a contemporary urban jazz band, both performed during the event.

“Windemere Park Charter Academy is honored to have been part of the Lansing community for 20 years, growing minds and inspiring hearts,” said Kaliah Butler, admissions representative at Windemere Park Charter Academy.

Over the past 20 years, Windemere Park has built a strong foundation of academic success, making major strides in recent years. The school has outperformed the local district for the past five years by more than 20 percentage points and has outperformed the local district in every grade and subject for the past five years.

“The 20th anniversary was a blast, and everybody had a great time!” said Butler. “Root Doctor and Horn & Holland rocked the stage while the kids enjoyed bubbles, face painting, Jeff the Magician, and yummy hot dogs and cupcakes!”

One special moment that also took place included when Mrs. Yvonne Thomas, principal at Windemere Park, presented an award to Mr. Locher, a former parent and school volunteer, for his dedication and service to WPCA for 14 years.
