Stambaugh Students Celebrate Reading Month

Students and staff at Stambaugh Charter Academy were recently joined by members of the community who came out for a fun night of festivities to celebrate March is Reading Month and honor the legendary rhyme-master, Dr. Seuss.

Students enjoyed interactive games and exciting activities, all inspired by various Dr. Seuss books. The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County were in attendance, encouraging students to sign up for free library cards.

“Families got to come out, tour the school, and meet the principal and staff while having fun,” said Kimberly Williams, admissions representative at Stambaugh.

The event took place at the school in late March and featured activities such as reading puzzles that asked guests to guess the number of Red Fish in a jar with this playful rhyme: “Hey you, yes you! We need you to guess! Is it more, or is it less?”

Additional crafts and activities took place throughout the evening, and students enjoyed refreshments including chips and cookies. Free educational books were also up for grabs for the families who attended.

One of the most popular crafts instructed students to build a musical instrument out of the paper cups and fill them with dry beans, inspired by Seuss’ music-loving Gerald McBoing-Boing who loved music and making fun and wacky noises.
