Linden Staff Plant Urban Garden

This summer several teachers came back to the school to volunteer, but not with students.  They wanted to give back to the community they work in - Flint.

Spearheaded by Linden Charter Academy second-grade teacher, Sara Wheaton, soil was poured, seeds were planted and an urban garden was created in June.

The garden is now producing tomatoes, peppers, and egg plant thanks to some generous local businesses who contributed free seeds, soil, raised beds and other supplies. Home Depot, Walmart, and Hall's Greenhouse really supported the vision, said Wheaton.

"I'm so very thankful that Mrs. [Deonna] Washington allowed this crazy idea to be put in motion," said Wheaton.
" I truly am thankful to work with such amazing staff and under such outstanding leadership."

Wheaton plans to distribute the bounty from the garden to the school families and use the garden to better teacher science and other subjects.
