Provided by the Landmark Academy Foundation, a parent group that helps fundraise for the school, the vending machine was installed over the summer and has books for all students to enjoy.
“We use it as a positive reward for students,” Landmark Principal Jenna Reeves said. “They can earn tokens to get a book out of the machine through showing moral focus virtues.”
Students can earn positive student conduct reports from their teachers when they display Moral Focus virtues, leadership, or going above and beyond in a task.
“They turn in their positive student conduct report to the dean, get a positive phone call home, and a token to use for the book vending machine,” Reeves said.
Pictures of students making their selections are included in weekly parent newsletters and the students have grown excited to earn a token.
Popular book titles included in the machine are “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” by Jeff Kinney, “It’s the End of the World and I’m in my Bathing Suit,” by Justin A. Reynolds, and “Mac B. Kid Spy,” by Mac Barnett.
