On Aug. 27, the Detroit Youth Concert Choir & Performing Arts Company (DYC) delivered yet another fantastic performance, and were one of 21 acts that advanced to the semifinals. In fact, they were the first act to be declared safe by viewer vote during the results show on Aug. 28. Grand River Academy students, Shyel White, Jae Abdul, Zionne McAdory, and Olivia Flood, are members of the DYC.
"This is bigger than 'AGT,'" said Julianne Hough, “AGT” judge. "This is a movement of bringing music and dance together, and you guys are better when you're together."
The choir opened the show with a powerful rendition of "The Champion," by Carrie Underwood featuring Ludacris.
“You are showing that you are unbeatable, invincible, and you deserve all of it,” said Gabrielle Union, “AGT” judge.
Their next performance will air Sept. 10, with the results episode taking place on Sept. 11, both at 8 p.m. EST. In addition to their upcoming “AGT” performance, the DYC will be the halftime act for the Detroit Lions home opener on Sept. 15.
The DYC could make "AGT" history by becoming the first choir to win the NBC reality competition.
