Detroit Enterprise Engages Families at Movie Under the Stars

One warm August night, staff, students, and families gathered in the parking lot at Detroit Enterprise Academy (DEA) to bond over movie snacks and the hit-movie “Trolls 2.”

There were roughly 60 children in attendance of the Movie Under the Stars event. DEA’s families along with our staff had the opportunity to watch the movie while enjoying popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy.

Families were required to bring their own chairs and blankets, and to practice social distancing. The event was coordinated by Stephanie Hall, admissions representative at DEA, whose role is to build relationships in the community and support school enrollment. Hall shared that the idea to host a movie night came to fruition since everyone missed going to the movies because of the pandemic. This event also gave families an opportunity to meet Emily Gagnon, principal at DEA, and get out of the house safely.

Families had a blast at the event, and the music in the movie even gave them the opportunity to get up and dance.

“As an admissions representative, I love meeting our new families,” shared Hall. “I believe in the culture of NHA and it comes across whenever having a discussion with our families. I have looked forward to accepting the challenges that we have faced with thinking outside of the box and becoming creative during this pandemic in order to engage our families.”

For Detroit Enterprise, the main goal of hosting events such as this is to show that they are a family. “The idea of family does not end when the bell rings for dismissal,” said Hall. “It allows our families to feel comfortable to send their children to us as well as see the staff in a relaxed environment.”

These events allow interested families to see Detroit Enterprise staff in a different, more relatable way. Families are able to attend to receive information and get those important questions answered.
