Stop Bullying in its Tracks

It’s no secret that bullying is one of the biggest threats to a child’s emotional and physical well-being, and has been for many years. Perhaps you’ve experienced it yourself. It’s painful, alienating and scary. Add in the prevalence of social media outlets available today, and suddenly bullying becomes an exponentially larger problem.

According to the National Bullying Prevention Center, bullying can lead to increased risk of poor school adjustment, difficulties sleeping, anxiety and even depression. But the Center has recently found that “school-based bullying prevention programs decrease bullying by up to 25 percent,” and we are actively doing our part.

At National Heritage Academies, we want every student to feel safe, appreciated and celebrated for who they are. We don’t take bullying lightly, and are committed to stopping bullying in its tracks — through activities and discussion that increase awareness and give our students tools to combat it.

During this time we’re also encouraging our students to make friends with someone they don’t know, and empowering them to stand up for one another. Additional data from National Bullying Prevention Center reveals that “more than half of bullying situations (57 percent) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied.” Joining our forces and helping our children can have a powerful effect on minimizing bullying and providing a safer environment for everyone.

Bullying is simply unacceptable. Let’s partner together to make our school a safe and welcoming place.
