Dress Code

To enable students to reach high academic standards, we've put in place a dress code designed to reduce distractions and competitions. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost-effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.

 

Personal Hygiene

The personal grooming of students should be in accord with the standards set by the dress code.  Students should be clean and neat when at school.

 

All Students

  • Shirts must be tucked into pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts at all times.

  • White t-shirts must be worn underneath school shirts. Colored undershirts are not permitted.

  • Cold weather attire may include solid-colored sweaters or vests that are navy, black, or white. Sweaters may not have hoods.

  • Students must wear white, navy, or black socks (or tights for girls).

  • Students must wear brown, black, or navy shoes (loafers or casual dress).  Tennis shoes are not permitted, but must be brought to school for use in Physical Education.  Boots are permitted only as outerwear.

  • Belt buckles that are large, display a name, or scroll electronically are not permitted.

  • Extreme hairstyles are not permitted.  Hair color must be of natural tones.

  • Head coverings may not be worn unless permitted by the principal.

  • Wearing, carrying, and displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs, or symbols of gang membership are prohibited.

  • The Winterfield Way t-shirts are permitted to be worn on Fridays, tucked in, with uniform pants.  T-shirts may be purchased in the school office.

 

Boys

  • Hairstyles must be conservative with hair being off the collar.

  • Earrings and other body piercing ornaments are not permitted.

  • Belts must be worn with pants and shorts that have belt loops.  Pants must be worn at the waist; sagging is not permitted.

 

Grades K-5

  • Students must wear navy, dark blue, or black pants or shorts. 

  • Students must wear white, navy blue, light yellow, or light blue shirts that have collars (includes mock turtleneck, long- or short-sleeved, cotton or knit).

  • Polo shirts with the Winterfield logo are permitted (to be worn with uniform pants) and may be purchased in the school office.

 

Grades 6-8

  • Students must wear a tie every day with a white, Oxford button up shirt.  Ties must be school appropriate. 

  • Students must wear tan pants or shorts with a belt.

 

Girls

  • A reasonable number of earrings are permitted.  Only ears may be pierced. 

  • Earrings must be no larger than a quarter.

  • Purses may not be carried throughout the school day.

 

Grades K-5

  • Students must wear navy, dark blue, or black pants, dress Capri pants (no cargo or tight Capri pants permitted), skirts, skorts, or jumpers.  All bottoms must be either longer than the fingers when the student’s arms hang at her sides or no more than three inches above the knees.  Belts must be worn with bottoms that have belt loops.

  • Students must wear white, navy blue, light yellow, or light blue shirts that have collars (includes mock turtleneck, long- or short-sleeved, cotton or knit).

  • Polo shirts with the Winterfield logo are permitted (to be worn with uniform pants) and may be purchased in the school office.

  • Makeup is not permitted.

 

Grades 6-8

  • Students are required to wear white, button-up, blouse shirts with tan pants, dress Capri pants (no cargo or tight Capri pants permitted) skirts, skorts, or jumpers.  Shirts must be tucked in and only the top collar button may be unbuttoned.
  • No polo shirts are permitted.
