The Walton Charter Academy school community recently celebrated the school’s designation as a “School of Excellence” by Northern Michigan University with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Cutting the ribbon were Amy Ebling, Principal; Mona Boersma, K-2 dean; Laura Hall, dean of special education; and Jeri Timpf, Kindergarten teacher. Boersma, Hall and Timpf were given the honor because all have been at Walton since the school opened. All but Ebling have been at Walton since the school opened 12 years ago. Representatives of Walton school board; Northern, which chartered the school; National Heritage Academies, which operates it; and Michigan Association of Public School Academies were on hand for the ceremony.
