Dress Code

To enable students to reach high academic standards, we've put in place a dress code designed to reduce distractions and competitions. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost-effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.

 

Personal Hygiene
The personal grooming of students should be in accord with the standards set by the uniform dress code. Students should be clean and neat when at school.

 

All Students

 

  • Students must wear solid-colored shirts with collars (includes polo shirts, turtlenecks, long or short-sleeved, cotton or cotton blend). Shirts may not be satin or 100 percent polyester.
  • Shirts must be long enough to remain tucked in at all times.
  • Students must wear traditional dress style pants or shorts that are navy, black, or tan.
  • Pants and shorts must be hemmed and worn at the waist.
  • Shorts may not be more than four inches above the knees.
  • Pants with large pockets, oversized pants, jean style pants, low-cut pants, flares, carpenter pants, cargo pants, drawstring pants, zip-offs, stretch pants, and denim pants are not permitted.
  • Girls may wear skirts, skorts, and jumpers that are navy, black, or tan. The items may not be more than four inches above the knees.
  • Girls may wear tights that are white, crème, brown, blue, black, or of natural tones.
  • Students may wear sweaters, vests, pullovers, or cardigans with collared shirts. Hoods and sweatshirts are not permitted. Sweatshirts with the South Arbor logo are permitted.
  • Students must wear solid-colors shoes that are white, black, navy, brown, or burgundy.
  • Only the sole may be a different color. Shoelaces must be tied at all times. Light-up shoes, outerwear boots, shoes with heels higher than 1.5 inches, shoes that rise above the ankles, sandals, clogs, open-toe shoes, and open-back shoes are not permitted.
  • Students must wear solid-colored socks.
  • Students must wear their personal ID badges at all times. They are not permitted inside their classrooms without their badges. Badges remain at school at the end of the day.
  • Replacement badges for lost or destroyed badges cost $3.00.
  • Hats of any kind may not be worn as classroom attire. Bandanas are not permitted.
  • Extreme hairstyles and hair of unnatural color are not permitted.
  • Students may wear watches and one pair of stud earrings. Other jewelry is not permitted.
  • Makeup, artificial nails, and nail polish are not permitted.

Special Events

  • For field trips, the dress code is set by the classroom teacher.
  • For Jean Day, students may wear jeans and dress code shirts. Low-cut and excessively baggy jeans are not permitted. All other dress code rules apply.
  • For Fall Yearbook Picture Day, students must follow the standard dress code.
  • For Spring Personal Picture Day, students may follow the standard dress code or wear more formal clothing (e.g., suits or dresses), per parental judgment.
