Our Leadership

Kim Bondy, Principal

 

Education:

·         Olivet College – Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education: Graduated with High Honors
·         Michigan State University – Masters in Education with a Science Major:  Graduated with High Honors.
 
 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

Kim began her teaching career with National Heritage Academies at Vanguard Charter Academy in Wyoming, Michigan, teaching fourth grade.   After getting married, she was excited to take on a new position with NHA as a Science Specialist for all of the eastern Michigan schools.  In this role she was able to train new teachers and travel to many schools, including South Arbor.  Once she had her first child, she was ready to settle back into one school and South Arbor was happy to hire her as a Middle School Science Teacher.  She had the opportunity to serve as a Dean in the Middle School Hall before starting the Accelerated Learning Program at South Arbor and serving as the Intermediate Hall Dean.  This is her first year as Principal at South Arbor.

 

What do you like most about working here?

South Arbor provides a great educational experience for its students.  The parents and staff here truly help to make a difference.
 

Other work experience we might want to mention:

Kim has served as a teacher editor for Zaner-Bloser Publications in her spare time.

 

 

 Personal:

My husband and I live with our three children and dog in Allen Park.  We spend most of our free time at our children's activities.  I am also a weekly volunteer at our church.
 
 
 
 

 

 Jen Bookout, Middle School Dean

 

Education:

·         Master’s Degree in Educational Studies with Certification Program--University of Michigan
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Archaeology—University of Michigan
 
 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

Jen completed a year-long teaching internship at Bates Academy in Detroit before working for the Ypsilanti Public Schools for two years. She joined the South Arbor Academy team in 2005 and taught Computer classes to students in 2nd-8th grades before becoming Dean of the Middle School in 2011.
 
 

What do you like most about working here?

South Arbor has a clear commitment to academic excellence and places a strong emphasis on personal growth and moral character. Jen is very proud of South Arbor’s dedicated staff and involved parents who work together as a team towards the mission of “challenging each child to achieve”.

 

Personal Information:

 Jen lives in Ann Arbor with her husband and two children. She is an avid reader and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

 

 

 

 

Jennifer Watenpool, Intermediate Hall Dean

 

Education:

·         Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Florida

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Concordia University Ann Arbor

·         National Board Teaching Certificate
 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

Jen taught middle school students at St. Matthew Lutheran School in Westland, MI before moving to Florida to teach 5th grade for several years. After completing her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, she moved to Charlotte, NC to take a position as Academic Facilitator. Eager to move back home and become a part of NHA, Jen enthusiastically accepted the position of Dean at South Arbor in 2011.
 

 

What do you like most about working here?

South Arbor has built a strong sense of community between the staff members and the families that is committed to giving each student an outstanding educational experience. Jen is proud to be a part of the South Arbor community.

 

 

 

Megan Inman, Primary Hall Dean

 

Education: 

  • Eastern Michigan University- Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education, Major: Language Arts, Minor: Science
  • Marygrove College-Masters in the Art of Teaching

 

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

Megan started here at South Arbor teaching fifth grade for one year followed by sixth grade for a year. In 2002, she moved to fourth grade. Before becoming Dean of the Primary Hall, she taught second grade for three years.

 

What do you like most about working here?

Megan believes that South Arbor sets a strong academic and moral focus for all students. She also enjoys the close relationships she has made over the years with her colleagues here at South Arbor.

 

Personal Information: 

Megan and her husband Scott and have two girls, Rylee and Rori.  They enjoy spending time together as a family not only at their home in South Lyon, but also their cottage near the shores of Lake Huron. In her spare time, Megan enjoys reading non fiction stories.
