Math Success at Ridge Park
Learning basic math facts is a priority at Ridge Park
10/19/2011
Page Content
The mastery of basic math facts increases a student's self-confidence in math and increases the ability to absorb and master more difficult math concepts. All too often, students who do not memorize the multiplication tables struggle with their math lessons and begin to dislike the subject. Ridge Park students develop a love for math because they have mentally mastered the basic facts that serve as keys to unlocking the doors to higher level mathematics.
Beginning in first grade, students are challenged to master math facts with 100% accuracy on a timed test. Each grade's test is increasingly more challenging. For example, in fourth grade the challenge is to get a perfect score on a multiplication test of up to 12 times 12 in four minutes.
Every Friday Mr. Brillhart, the principal, awards a math medallion at a school assembly to the students who have earned their medallion that week.
The last Tuesday of each month is Medallion Day and all students wearing their medallion that day receive free ice cream at lunch.
