To enable students to reach high academic standards, we've put in place a dress code designed to reduce distractions and competitions. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost-effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.
Personal Hygiene
The personal grooming of students should be in accord with the standards set by the uniform dress code. Students should be clean and neat when at school.
All Students
Shirts must be navy blue, burgundy, or white polo shirts that have the North Saginaw Charter Academy logo.
Pants must be Docker-type pants with no outside front or back pockets. Flaps on back
pockets are acceptable. Pants must be navy blue or khaki. Cargo pants with outside side pockets are not permitted.
Middle school students may also wear tri-colored polo shirts with the North Saginaw Charter Academy logo.
Conservative shoes, including loafer style, dress shoes, tennis shoes, or closed toed sandals, must be worn. Flip flops and house slippers are not permitted. Shoes must be school colors only (navy, burgundy or white). Shoes colors may also include black and brown. Shoes may not be airbrushed or have any symbols other than the manufactured symbol (e.g., Nike or Reebok). Shoes must be worn appropriately (i.e., laced and/or strapped all the way for safety purposes).
Shoes with wheels are not to be worn at school or on school grounds at any time, including in the gymnasium, on sidewalks, in the parking lot, or on the playground. Athletic shoes with non-marking soles are to be worn for P.E. class. Snow boots may be worn as outerwear only and may not be worn in the classrooms.
Tattoos or writing on skin are not permitted.
Hats of any kind are not permitted.
Dark glasses of any kind are not permitted.
Any distracting jewelry is not permitted.
Shorts and skorts may be worn only during the months of September, May, and June.
Sweatshirts must be navy blue or burgundy with the North Saginaw Charter Academy logo. A collared shirt that is a school color must be worn underneath (includes turtlenecks).
Shirts must be tucked neatly into bottoms at all times.
Undershirts (T-shirts worn under uniform shirts) must be solid black, white, navy blue, or burgundy and must fit appropriately under the uniform shirts. Undershirts may not have longer sleeves than uniform shirts.
A solid black, navy blue, or brown belt must be worn with all pants and shorts. No rhinestones, silver rings/studs or designs on belts are permitted. Belt loops may not be removed from pants or shorts to avoid wearing belts. Only kindergarten students are not required to wear belts.
All clothing must be sized properly, so items are not overly baggy or tight. Sagging of shorts or pants is not permitted.
Hairstyles must be conservative with the hair not hindering the student’s vision in any way.
Extreme hairstyles, as identified in the discretion of the principal, are not permitted (e.g., shave lines, designs, unnatural colors, Mohawks etc.).
Wearing, carrying, and displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs, or symbols of gang membership are prohibited.
Boys
- Pants and shorts must be both navy blue or khaki and conservative. They may not have side pockets, carpenter loops, or stripes. Corduroy or denim materials are not permitted.
- Vests are to be navy blue v-neck vests that have the North Saginaw Charter Academy logo.
- Earrings and other body piercing ornaments are not permitted.
Girls
- Pants, shorts, Capri pants, jumpers, and skorts must be navy blue or khaki. Bottoms should be conservative and may not have side pockets, carpenter loops, stripes, decorative embroidery, or flared bottoms. Corduroy or denim materials are not permitted.
- Bottoms must be at least one inch longer than the fingertips when the student’s arms hang at her sides.
- White blouses may be worn only under jumpers.
- Tights and socks must be solid school colors.
- For girls in grades K-5, heels on shoes may not exceed one (1) inch.
- For girls in grades 6-8,heels on shoes may not exceed three (3) inches.
- A reasonable number of earrings are permitted. Only ears may be pierced. Other body piercing ornaments are not permitted.
- A reasonable number of bracelets and rings are permitted.
- Earrings and necklaces must be modest.
- Makeup is not permitted. Only natural nails are permitted.
The school administration reserves the right to the final approval of dress code attire.
