Kathy Watson, a veteran educator and administrator with nearly 15 years experience, has been named principal at North Saginaw Charter Academy, a tuition-free public charter school that opened its doors in 1999. Ms. Watson joins North Saginaw after serving as principal at Paragon Charter Academy in Jackson for the past eight years. She officially takes over for Bob Morgenstein, who served as interim principal for the school since May 2010.
Ms. Watson is no stranger to North Saginaw Charter Academy or the Saginaw community, having served as a 5th and 6th grade teacher at the school for two years and attending Saginaw Valley State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
“I had the privilege of working at North Saginaw Charter Academy years ago and enjoyed getting to know so many parents who were passionate about their children’s academic success,” said Ms. Watson. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to the school so that we can continue to build upon the great strides that have been made since North Saginaw first opened its doors. Over the past year, Mr. Morgenstein has fostered a school culture dedicated to students and committed to academic excellence. I look forward to working in tandem with our staff, students and parents in furthering our students’ growth.”
Under Ms. Watson’s leadership, North Saginaw Charter Academy will continue to offer a challenging, character-based education with high academic and social expectations. The charter school will continue to prioritize its academic program and instructional time so that students learn to read, compute and write at or above grade level. Students attending North Saginaw Charter Academy are expected to master the skills needed to prepare them for success in high school and for college readiness.
