Transportation

We do not offer bus transportation. However, we have seen great success with parents coordinating carpooling.  Please contact the school office for more information on parent carpools and our Ridefinder program: 616-364-1100.

Traffic Flow Procedures

Because the traffic flow is heavy during drop-off and pick-up times, parents are asked to follow the traffic rules in order to ensure student safety.  Knapp Charter Academy is considered private property.  If, for any reason, the administration considers a situation to be unsafe or not in keeping with school standards for appropriate behavior, persons involved may be prohibited from involvement in school activities and from the school campus.

Morning Drop-Off

Students may either be dropped off at the curb or a parent/driver may choose to park in the parking lot and escort his/her student passengers to their designated waiting areas.  The following rules must be followed:

• If parents choose to park and walk, they must use the crosswalks to cross the lanes of incoming traffic and wait for the crossing guard’s assistance.

• If parents choose to drop off their student passengers, they must drop them off at the curb, not in the center lane or the left lane.  Student passengers must exit vehicles from the passenger’s side.  If this is not possible, drivers should park and have their student passengers walk to their designated waiting areas.  The entire curb area can be used.  When approaching the curb, parents are asked to pull forward as far as possible before stopping to let their passengers exit, paying attention to the crossing guards, who will direct them to a safe exiting location.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Students wait with their teachers until 3:40 p.m. for their rides to pick them up.  At 3:40 p.m., any students who have not been picked up and are not part of an after school activity continue waiting at the main entrance for their rides to pick them up.  Supervision is provided until 3:45 p.m.  At that time, any remaining students will continue to wait unsupervised.  All students must check out with their teachers before leaving the school.  Students who have siblings or are part of a carpool wait with the youngest student’s class.

When picking up students, parents should abide by the following rules:

• Parents who choose to park in a designated parking spot in the parking lot when they pick up their student(s) must use the crosswalks to cross the lanes of traffic and must wait for the crossing guard’s assistance.

• Parents may also pick up their student passengers at the curb or in the center lane.  If they choose to wait at the curb or center lane, they may not leave their vehicles unattended; teachers will bring their student passengers to them.  The left lane must keep moving at all times, and at no time, should it be used to pick up students.  When parents are ready to leave, they must use their turn signals.  This informs the crossing guard of vehicles ready to exit.  When exiting, parents should following the crossing guard’s instructions for safe exit.

Afternoon Kindergarten Drop-Off

Parents of afternoon kindergarten students must follow the morning drop-off procedures.  Parents may not leave their vehicles at the curb to bring their children inside. If they wish to accompany their children to class, they must park in a designated parking spot.
