We believe technology should be used to improve student academic achievement. This can be accomplished through:
Student Learning
Digital technologies (i.e. computers, handhelds, digital media, etc.) have the potential to unlock student achievement for learning in significant and substantive ways. For that reason, it is our vision to have all students computer literate by the 8th grade. We believe that “how” technology is applied in the classroom is substantially more important than “how much” or “how often” technology is applied. Because of this, technology’s role in an instructional setting must be deliberate, well-designed and continuously assessed.
Teacher Growth
Our teachers participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology and to improve student learning. This education is then applied within the classroom to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.
Parent Communication
We believe that communication technology can be a powerful force in removing the barriers that sometimes exist between the classroom and the living room. With these technologies, our parents will gain real-time access to information about their child’s academic performance through a secure Internet connection. Communication with teachers is also timely as are tools like email and instant messaging.
Library
Your child has the opportunity to earn Reading Award Certificates by meeting a reading goal of 100 minutes a week. That's only 20 minutes of reading, five times a week! The Reading Award Certificates can be redeemed at Pizza Hut where your child will receive a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza. Simply track the minutes your child reads (or is read to) each day on the Book IT Calendar. At the end of each month, return the calendar to your child's teacher to receive a Reading Award Certificate. students who complete a calendar during all six months of the program, will receive a special award at the end of the year. Beginning November, parents will be able to print the monthly Book It Calendar from our website. Reminders will be sent home through monthly school newsletters and teacher newsletters.
