To enable students to reach high academic standards, we've put in place a dress code designed to reduce distractions and competitions. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost-effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.
All Students
Students must wear brown, black, navy, or burgundy shoes (loafer type or casual dress).
Athletic shoes should be brought to school for use in P.E. class only. Boots are permitted only as outerwear. Shoes with wheels are not permitted.
Cold weather attire may include solid-colored sweaters or vests that are navy, white, beige, tan, burgundy, rust, or dark green. Sweatshirts are not permitted. Hoodies,sweatshirts, and exposed undershirts are not permitted.
Shirts must be tucked into bottoms.
Hats or rags of any kind may not be worn inside the building.
Baggy pants, loose-hanging pants, and walking shorts are not permitted
Students must wear white or navy socks.
Extreme hairstyles are prohibited. Hair color must be natural and may not be professionally colored, dyed, or streaked. Hair must be conservative and off the collar for boys.
Wearing, carrying, and displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs, or symbols of gang membership are prohibited.
Body piercing ornaments are not permitted. Boys may not wear earrings. Girls may wear a reasonable number of earrings. Only ears may be pierced.
Makeup is not permitted.
Elementary Students (Grades K-5)
Students must wear white shirts with collars (includes mock turtleneck, long- or short sleeved,
cotton or knit).
Students must wear navy or dark blue pants or shorts.
For boys, belts must be worn with trousers that have belt loops.
For girls, navy blue skirts, skorts, or jumpers may be worn. Bottoms must be longer than the fingers when her arms hang at her sides or no more than three inches above the knees.
Students must wear customized Hamtramck Charter Academy shirts and pants. Parents may purchase the P.E. uniform in the front office $9.00 for pants and $5.00 for shirts. Only cash and money orders are accepted.
Middle School Students (Grades 6-8)
Students must wear white or light blue button-down/oxford style shirts.
Students must wear khaki (beige or tan) pants or shorts. Shorts may be no shorter than knee-length. Pants and shorts must remain at the waist; no sagging is permitted.
For boys, ties, belts, and blazers must be worn at all times.
For girls, khaki skirts may be worn. Skirts must be no shorter than knee-length.
For girls, navy blue sweaters may be worn.
