Get Caught Reading!

Library Open Tuesday August 9 from 9:30-11:00 am

Cross Creek students are busy "Getting Caught Reading" this summer!  Research proves the power of reading both consistently and often dramatically impacts learning.  In fact, during the 2010 summer months, Cross Creek students who participated in our "Get Caught Reading" program showed a 13 point difference on their Spring to Fall NWEA (MAP) growth scores!  Our summer program is based on the work of researcher James Kim, Assistant Professor of Education at Harvard university. Kim found that the amount of time reading and interacting with the content through oral reading and comprehension scaffolding significantly impacts student standardized test scores.

To help our students with reading resources, our library will be open on Tuesday, August 9, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.  Students can check out books, take Accelerated Reader quizzes, and assess their progress in the program with teachers.  We will also be hosting a Basketball and Books Event. K-3rd grade students are invited to participate from 10:00 am to 11:30 and 4th-8th grade students are invited to come from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm.

We hope to see all our students there!
