TYRONE TOWNSHIP -- Chandler Woods Academy third-grader Connor Schaffer led an effort that raised $100 for the Howard Christensen Nature Center. Connor, who attended a field trip at the center last fall, was concerned when he heard about the center closing and re-opening.
He encouraged classmates to work on extra chores at home to earn money to donate. He set up a donation box at the school.
His teacher, Sunday Lopez, said the class “had a blast” at the field trip and learned a lot about habitat. Connor plans to present Lily’s Frog Pad, the new group running the nature center, with the money at a June 28 meeting.
