Chandler Woods Collects Items for Less Fortunate Mothers

Michael Taylor
While the majority of mothers across Michigan will celebrate this coming Mother’s Day at home with loved ones, a number of less fortunate moms will be spending the day with their children in homeless shelters. In support of these women, Chandler Woods Academy is joining Tow Men and a Truck to make their Mother’s Day a little brighter through the local movers’ statewide “Movers for Moms” program.
Over the next two months, students and staff from Chandler Woods will collect essential items for women staying at YWCA West Central Michigan. Additionally, beginning in late March and running through May 6, the school will serve as drop off location for community members interested in donating items to this cause. The types of essential items recommended for donation include: health and beauty items such as soaps, shampoos and toiletries; baby necessities including wipes and diapers; kitchen and cleaning products. In addition to the essentials, creature comforts such as robes and slippers are also welcome.
“In the past, our Chandler Woods families have donated personal items to help the moms have a better Mother’s Day in the various shelters,” said Barbara Lindquist, principal of Chandler Woods Academy. “We are happy to assist in this great initiative, which also goes along with what we teach everyday with our moral focus emphasis.”
