Catherine Henkenberns, Principal
Education:
College of Mount St. Joseph, Cincinnati, OH Bachelor of Arts
Ashland University, Ohio Masters of Education
Previous Experience:
10 years with NHA
8 years of Collegiate Basketball Coaching
9 years of Elementary Physical Education Teacher/Coach
What do you like most about working here?
I love to work with students as they learn new things - to affirm their work, motivate them to take risks, support them with materials that help them learn, and listen to them. I love coaching our teachers as they develop their instructional skills. I enjoy working with parents as partners in their child's education and providing a quality experience for our families.
Personal Information:
I am a sports fan especially Tigers Baseball and college basketball. I love to read and workout and go for walks in my free time.
Janelle Magyar, K-2 Dean
Education:
I graduated from Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have additional endorsements in Language Arts and Science. I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Literacy Education at Madonna University.
Previous Experience:
I taught first grade from 2007-2011 at Canton Charter Academy before becoming the K-2 Dean. Previous to my employment with CCA, I worked as an English Language Learner (ELL) interventionist servicing students in grades K-5.
What do you like most about working here?
The thing I like most about working for Canton Charter Academy is their commitment to challenging students (and staff) to set and pursue goals. I feel fortunate to work in a supportive environment where success is nurtured, best practices are shared, and student success is the primary goal.
Personal Information:
I am married with two children. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, reading, Lion’s football, and long walks with my dog, Toby-Wan Kenobi.
Tracy Murray, 3-5 Dean
Education:
I have a BA in Elementary Education from Ottawa University, and a MA in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University.
I am looking forward to starting my doctoral degree.
Previous Experience:
I taught Pre-Kindergarten for four years at a private school in Scottsdale, Arizona while I was working on my undergraduate degree.
Then, I moved back to Michigan and started working for NHA.
I taught 1 year of 7
th
grade and 5 years of 5
th
grade at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo. Then, I transferred to Triumph Academy in Monroe, Michigan where I was the Assistant Principal for the past 6 years.
What do you like most about working here?
I love the importance that is put on education and the positive culture and climate that has been created at CCA.
Personal Information:
I am married and have two boys.
They are very active and keep me extremely busy! In my spare time I enjoy scrapbooking, going to my son’s hockey games, traveling, getting pedicures, and spending time with my family and friends
Jim Markey, 6-8 Dean
Education:
I received a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1984 from the University of Michigan. In 1990 I completed my Master's in Economics from the American University in Washington D.C. I returned to school in 2000 and enrolled in the of University of Michigan' ELMAC program, receiving a Master's Degree in Education.
Previous Experience:
I taught third grade at Canton Charter Academy from 2001 to 2010 What do you like most about working here? One aspect of working at NHA that I truly appreciate is the focus on offering a quality education within a framework of accountability for teacher and student alike.
Other experience:
I worked for the Federal Government for 15 years as an analyst and program manager. This included 5 years with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and 10 years with Environmental Protection Agency.
Personal Information:
I am married with two daughters attending college. I enjoy the outdoors and music.
